A military fort that lies in ruins on the outskirts of Havana has become a clandestine venue for gay cruising. Its walls and rubble serve as a refuge, not only for gay Cuban men but also for a culture of socialisation and resistance.

Director's Biography

Born in Havana, Cuba in 1986, he earned an undergraduate degree in Audiovisual Media from the University of the Arts (ISA) in Cuba (2010) and completed his studies in Documentary Film Directing at the International Film and Television School (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños (2013) and in the Cinema of the Real Department at the School of Art and Design (HEAD) in Geneva, Switzerland (2015). Several of his works have been screened and received awards at international festivals. Sainz has worked as a filmmaker, producer and editor on documentaries, as assistant director on feature-length fiction films and as an audiovisual internet content producer. He has also collaborated on art projects like Docuselfie (online) and Inventario (Ludwig Foundation of Cuba). Since 2016 he has worked as a documentary film teacher and advisor at EICTV in San Antonio de los Baños and as an independent filmmaker and editor in Havana and Madrid.
