Julio César Cu Cámara is the leader of Mexico City’s team of sewer divers. Their job is to repair pumps and remove waste from sewage canals to enable black water to be channelled away from the city, lowering the risk of floods in a city that has a history of serious problems stemming from them.

Director's Biography

He studied Communications at Macquarie University in Australia and Film-Making at the University Center for Film Studies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (CUEC UNAM). In 2008 he attended the first Talent Campus Guadalajara devoted to documentary film, and in 2012 he attended the Berlinale Talent Campus organised by the Berlin Film Festival. His short films have been presented at various festivals around the world. His documentary Río Lerma won him the José Rovirosa Award as well as an Ariel for Best Short Documentary Film from the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences (AMACC), in addition to receiving a mention at the Short Shorts Festival. His short film El baile de tres cochinillas won him the award for Best Director at the Proyección Corta Festival in 2013. His documentary El Buzo won the award for Best Short Documentary Film at the Morelia International Film Festival.
