The film takes place at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, in the mid-30s. A troop of Nationalists reach the town of Navagrande and kill all the Republicans who are in it. In the confusion of the moment, a group of inmates at the psychiatric hospital is able to escape from the center. They flee to the mountains to be safe and unknowingly arrive to an area where the enemies are savagely repressed. In that same area, they meet a group of anarchists led by El Rubio with whom they establish a good relationship.
