The session will focus on the screening of the documentary “Nitsa 94/96. El giro electrónico” and the presence of IS TROPICAL and DJ FRA Loyal to the purpose of bringing the “cinema of the real” to new audiences, DOCUMENTAMADRID programs MAGVA, a multidisciplinary session that will be the closing for the screenings of its ephemeral theatre EL PLATÓ and that will take place on Saturday 9 May, at 20:00h. Highlighting the singularity of the space and its architectonic rehabilitation, CINETECA opens its doors to a multidisciplinary session that brings together a musical documentary, a dinner/selection of cold bites accompanied by an author cocktail, structural architectonic illumination and two of the best representatives of the current electronic music: Is Tropical and DJ Fra. All this for a limited capacity (250 people), which will make the session a unique experience. An event with the purpose of opening the building to new audiences with different plans that outline a cultural sensitivity without disciplinary frontiers nor prejudices, and that provides a different and nocturnal vision of the building. The MAGVA event revolves around NITSA 94/96. El giro electrónico, a Spanish documentary winner of the last edition of In-edit, which narrates one of the most thriving moments of the electronic music in Spain and focusing on the legendary club in Barcelona: Nitsa. EL PLATÓ, CINETECA’s “pop-up” theatre, will be the unique space that will host this meeting. For the culinary experience, the festival has given priority to our neighbour and travel companion LA CANTINA. A session will take place after the screening, enlivened by DJ FRA, settled in Nitsa and one of the highest representatives of the electronic music in our country, and the British band IS TROPICAL, that will appear as a DJ Set, offering a unique chance to enjoy the songs of their recent and acclaimed album Black Anything.
The tickets, very limited, will have a single price of 25 euros that will include the screening, the culinary experience and the later session of electronic music. They will be on sale from 24 April in the usual channels of CINETECA (entradas.com and box office).
Nitsa 94/96: el giro electrónico is an homage to the club Nitsa, to its founders and everyone who made it possible. In 1994, the club Nitsa hosted in its iconic rotating dancefloor musical referents such as Jeff Mills, Darren Emerson, Ian Pooley, Laurent Garnier, Derrick May or Carl Craig, unknown to the mainstream audiences at the moment, but that were already big stars in the electronic circuit. Also, the club NITSA witnessed the birth of Dj Sideral, who shook up the Barcelona indie and underground scene through vibrant and eclectic sessions where the electronic and the pop music merged into a new and surprising musical genre. Around this club was constructed an industry that didn’t exist until the moment. Music magazines became popular, graphic design took the streets and flyers became the icon of the club culture. It was an innovative and creative moment that was an inspiration to festivals as big as Sónar and Primavera Sound and that became a milestone in the youth of a whole generation. WELCOME COCKTAIL 22h00 SESSION
DJ FRA (Nitsa/BCN) - 22h00 to 23h30 Fra is with any doubt one of the best resident DJs in Spain; he has spent more than two decades spreading musical wisdom and elegance every weekend from the DJ booth of the legendary club Nitsa of Barcelona. He has shared the booth with almost every renowned DJ in the history of electronic music, adapting to the different styles with a fascinating ability. But no man can live solely from electronic music: not many people know that Fra is also one of the main people responsible for the recruitment in the festival Primavera Sound. With an encyclopaedic musical wisdom, his day to day life swings between fights with musical managers to hire the main band to lead the next edition of the festival, and weekends deejaying at Nitsa or another club in central Europe with the booking of the label Kompakt. |

IS TROPICAL (DJ Set) – 23h30 to 01h00
Is Tropical is one of the most trendy electro indie bands of the moment. After joining Kitsuné in 2010 (the same label as Phoenix, Two Door Cinema Club or Hot Chip), the British trio has toured along with artists such as Crystal Fighters, Klaxons or The Big Pink.
Author of the hits “Dancing Anymore”, “The Greeks” or “Land Of The Nod”, Is Tropical shows up this time in Cineteca in the format of a DJ Set. Behind the plates, the British band doesn’t hesitate in playing their favourite songs, putting together a very eclectic session, full of energy and dynamism.
