The centuries-old custom of blood feuds has started blighting lives in Albania since the collapse of communism, particulary in the mountains of north, where many families are living locked down in their houses in fear of bloodvengeance. The ancestral code of “Kanun”, which has governed rural life in Albania for five centuries of foreign occupation, include the right to murder to avenge an earlier killing: “blood must be paid with blood”.

Director's Biography

Audiovisual director and independent documentary film-maker Roser Corella (Barcelona, 1978) began her audiovisual career as a director of features for television until she started producing her own documentary film projects. Her first film, Hombre máquina, co-directed with Alfonso Moral, was highly acclaimed in international festivals, and was awarded more than twenty prizes, such as CANAL+ Award at the Women's Film Festival of Creteil (France) and First place for “Long-Form Multimedia Documentary” at Picture of the Year International (USA) amongst others.
