More than 130 young conductors from all over the world converge on the Italian city of Trento to compete in the Antonio Pedrotti International Competition for Orchestra Conductors. The contestants face a week of gruelling tests as they vie to show the demanding judges who is the most talented young conductor. Three teams film the contestants throughout the competition, capturing their nerves, their joys and disappointments, and their thoughts on this difficult and largely overlooked profession. To the sound of a stunning repertoire, viewers discover the passion that these young maestros harbour for music, as well as the challenges they must face to become "the next great talent".

ANGEL ESTEBAN
Angel learned his craft working as an assistant cameraman for television, and occasionally for film and advertising.
In 2004 he co-directed his first documentary, “ArteSella, un museo all’aperto”, and has since worked as producer and cameraman on several television productions (TVE, Canal +, Cuatro) and for independent producers (ElSotano.doc, Estación Central de Contenidos, Kottomfilms…) making documentaries, reports and docu-series.
In 2012 he made the documentary “Endometriosis, the tip of the iceberg”, directed by his partner Elena Goatelli, while in 2013 he again teamed up with Elena to make “One minute for conductors”, selected at the IDFA 2013 and winner of the Best Documentary at DockOfTheBay 2014.
For the last six years he has combined his filmmaking with teaching.
ELENA GOATELLI
A graduate in North American and Spanish-American Literature Studies, Elena began her career in 2000 at Canal+. Over the following years she combined her work making late night television (Noche Hache, Estas no son las noticias, Sé lo que hicisteis) with independent projects (“ArteSella, un museo all’aperto”, “Caso Pendiente” by Smiz and Pixel, “Villalba cuenta” by Sally and Gabriela Gutiérrez Deward…), and eventually set up her own production company KOTTOMfilms, where she makes documentaries with her partner Angel Esteban. In 2012 she directed, produced and scripted the documentary Endometriosis, the tip of the iceberg, which was been aired on Documentos TV (TVE). One minute for conductors is her latest feature length documentary, directed and produced with Angel Esteban.
