The aim of this non-competitive selection has been to offer the audience a sample, as varied as possible, of the documentary cinema produced in our country, following up the path set by Cineteca.
It has been a challenge to offer a high quality selection which was still new to the Madrid audience, since Cineteca has already screened this season close to thirty recently produced Spanish documentary films. Amongst them were all the films nominated for this year´s Goya Awards, including the winning film.
However, it is good news to see that so many documentaries of such a high standard are being currently produced. Creativity levels are still high. This has allowed us to come up with an unreleased selection of the highest quality.
Many of the documentaries look on life in our country: closed mines at Almadén, work at a farmstead in the Pyrenees, a psychiatric hospital in Galicia… Other films look on different realities in Tunisia or El Salvador… All of them have a gifted way of telling what Jean Renoir defined as “bits of life”.
We hereby present a collection of the best Spanish documentary films which have not as yet been released in Madrid and which, in many cases, will be worldwide premiers.
We hope that you shall enjoy this selection as much as we have enjoyed making it.
