The “accursed film of Spanish cinema” has won its adjective thoroughly: the screening of Rocío is still under the restriction imposed by the Regional Court in Seville, which ruled the elimination of several shots (substituted with informative announcements). The film was planned as a historic, anthropologic and sociologic analysis of the Fiesta del Rocío. It exposed how the dominant petty tyranny in Andalucía driven by the aristocracy and clergy had distorted that popular celebration through the decades, and how it was still well alive despite the changes in the rest of the nation.
