To Simo, Beatschmidt, Magic Mayer and so many others like them, breakdance in the Eighties was more important than the pioneers, Stasi and all the other things the German Democratic Republic (GDR) was best known for. This is their story: the chronicle of a movement whose members went from being arrested in the street for performing capitalist and corrupted American culture, to becoming media stars and even paraded like heroes at the National Festival before President Honecker and the nation's soldiers. It is an account of the creation of something of their own and of a generation that never got a chance to have their say before.
